LA FEMME EST MORTE OR WHY I SHOULD NOT F*#! MY SON

Genre: Classical, Drama, Dance, Lesbian+Gay, Musical, Festival
A new adaptation of Phaedra created by Shoshona Currier

In this provocative new production at The 10th Annual New York International Fringe Festival, the Greek tragedy Phaedra meets modern day, celebrity-obsessed America. Golden couple Theseus and Phaedra are just like the Beckhams: gorgeous, wealthy and on the cover of every tabloid. With Theseus off at war, pilates-addicted Phaedra grows lonely and confides in her publicist Niamh. Her only enjoyment comes from watching her stepson Hippolytus box with his best friend X. Amid a chorus of swarming paparazzi and backstabbers, Phaedra and Hippolytus struggle to hide their budding attraction. What happens when the gloves come off? How do people deal with being left behind during wartime? Using found text from sources such as General Patton's D-Day Speech, George Bataille's Ma Mere, Seneca's Phaedra, and US Weekly as well as new text from director Shoshona Currier, La Femme Est Morte Or Why I Should Not Fuck My Son weaves together a tragi-comedy packed with live music (expect to hear all your favorite pop songs), enormous dance numbers, and full-scale boxing matches.
